Background

In this return, Ice Scream 3 takes us to a small town with a distinctly 1980s American style. It looks quite peaceful and sparsely populated. Then the sound of an ice cream truck appears, signaling something ominous. Rod Sullivan reappears as the ice cream vendor. And somehow, he freezes Mike and takes him inside his ice cream truck.

Rod is known to be a child kidnapper – something you can learn about in previous games. In previous instances, our group of friends struggled to escape him. Here, you play as J, witnessing Mike’s abduction. J climbs into a car, trying everything to rescue his friend, but fails. Rod takes them both to a place where he holds his victims captive. And then, the story begins again, with you making all the decisions.

Gameplay

Overall, Ice Scream 3’s gameplay isn’t drastically different from the previous two games. Everything revolves around escaping from the ice cream vendor, Rod. During gameplay, you’ll need to move stealthily to avoid being caught by Rod – much like a game of hide-and-seek. Don’t get caught. Additionally, you’ll need to explore and collect items to solve puzzles that are preventing your escape.

Compared to the previous two games, Ice Scream 3 features a groundbreaking, larger map spanning the entire city. Therefore, your tasks and the amount of exploration and puzzle-solving you need to solve are significantly increased. Additionally, the character Rod receives a considerable buff to his pursuit and search abilities. Be careful if you hear approaching footsteps. Finally, choose a difficulty level that suits your skill level for the most enjoyable experience.

More areas to explore is one of the new things in Ice Scream 3. The villain’s past

Although Ice Scream 3 doesn’t fully reveal Rod’s background, you can find some details about him during gameplay. Right at the beginning of the game, a short cutscene shows us that Rod was once a gentle boy like everyone else. His family owned an ice cream factory. He was a big fan of a comedian, but the comedian had some kind of accident…
